Problem
Site managers juggled spreadsheets for worker compliance and safety trends. Expired tickets and observation volume were easy to miss until audits failed.
Research
- Mapped daily supervisor rituals: open site → scan compliance % → chase expiring/expired → review observations.
- Separated operational compliance from analytical safety insights.
- Used semantic color (green / amber / red) consistently for status language.
Process
- Designed a compliance hero with overall % and KPI tiles for workers, compliant, expiring, expired.
- Built dual tables for Expiring Soon vs Expired with clear status pills and an urgent alert bar.
- Crafted Safety Insights with KPI strip, observation trends (bar/line), engagement, categories, and corrective actions.
- Kept global nav (Dashboard, Safety Insights, Audit Log, Subcontractors, KPI Coverage, Messages) stable across views.
Solution
- Compliance dashboard that makes risk (expired/expiring) impossible to miss.
- Safety Insights that pair trends with engagement and corrective action follow-through.
- Chart toggle (bar vs line) for the same observation dataset without layout thrash.

Learnings
- Compliance UIs win when “who is blocked today” is louder than vanity totals.
- Insight callouts (e.g. supervisor engagement) help non-analysts act on charts.
